Welcome! Cascadia Elementary is a Highly Capable Cohort (HCC) that serves students in grades 1-5. Our school population varies each year with enrollment, but we typically have approximately 500 students. This year we have three 1st grade classes, three 2nd grade classes, five 3rd grade classes, five 4th grade classes, and five 5th grade classes. In grades 1-3 students have one homeroom teacher and in grades 4-5 students have two, one teaches math/science and the other teaches reading/writing (ELA).

At Cascadia we use an accelerated curriculum model, which means students are taught content one grade above same age peers for ELA and two grades above in math. Both science and social studies are taught on grade level.

All of our students attend 3 specialty classes on an A/B/C schedule, the classes are Physical Education, Art, and General Music. See below for a blurb about each class!

General Music- The General Music program at Cascadia works to educate the whole child. Using folk dancing, singing, and music games, children at our school experience the joy of music making. By offering opportunities for students to find their voice, play pitched percussion (xylophones), wind (recorders) and stringed instruments (ukuleles) in the general music classroom, children have multiple avenues to explore music and to discover their own path as a young musician.

Physical Education- Welcome to Cascadia PE! Our mission is to foster a lifelong love for physical activity, healthy eating and wellness. Students learn about their health content through movement based games and activities. They practice many different manipulative and sports skills throughout the school year. As a teacher, I help them to monitor growth and set goals for their various fitness aspirations. Through our PE program, I aim to teach self-esteem, perseverance and sportsmanship. I work hard to foster integrity and celebrate our differences. The PE program at Cascadia is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and fun environment for all students to learn and grow.

Art- The visual arts program at Cascadia teaches students to express and explore their own thoughts and feelings through the elements of art: line, shape, form, value, color, space, and texture. Students not only explore original ideas, but they discover why people make art throughout the world, and how to overcome artistic challenges. Students get the opportunity to work with clay (we have two kilns), printmaking, and painting.

We partner with our PTA to bring other in school learning opportunities. Please visit our PTA website to learn more about them and our school. https://cascadiapta.org/
