    Students on Stage
I've unfortunately, not posted in a while! We've been super busy and having a great time at our Community Meetings. Several weeks ago the 1st and 2nd grade classes performed their STYLE songs. Each class shared songs they had written together and learned the choreography to! It was so much fun to hear our fellow Dragon's sing and dance.

Then one week we showcased lots of writing from our students. Ms. Bodmer had been working on Haiku with classes in the library and three girls from Ms. Gibson's class came up to share their poems with us. They also helped launch "Poem in your Pocket Day," which Cascadia celebrated on Wednesday April 25th. Kids across the school carried original or favorite poems in their pockets. Anyone who asked me got to hear Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Swing," my favorite poem since childhood!

We also heard excerpts from two of our 5th Graders, Ava and Sylvia. Many of the 5th graders had entered the MoPOP Write Out of This World science fiction writing contest. Sylvia's story "Letting Go" took 2nd place, and Ava's story "38 Minutes" took 3rd. You can read the stories in their entirety here: Write out of this World contest winners

This last week, we had a performance from Taproot Theater about how to recognize, report and refuse bullying. "Alexandra and the Dragon" told the story of an imaginative girl who learned how to stand up to a bully and be an ally for a friend. There were Dragon's and chess involved! It was great!
